Advice to Newcomers

Following are some important information which  newcomers as well as the resident of Canada must know:

Taxes in Canada:
Federal and Provincial
Income tax: Income tax refers to annual taxes levied by the federal government on individual and business income, there are tax rates are set on the income of individuals, can easily check on tax rate website.

Provincial taxes: There are two types of sales tax in Canada, in Ontario GST is 5% & PST is 8% combined called HST which is (5+8=13%)

As a new Canadian, you may receive benefits or tax refund. you are eligible for most of the same benefits as other Canadian, but you have to apply for these benefits and file your income tax return.

Benefits include payments for qualifying families with children, a rebate of the goods and services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) - known as GST/HST credit, and certain provincial & territorial benefits and credits.

Property tax: is the real state tax calculated by the government which is paid by the owner of the property.

Border tax (Duties)
The Canada border services agency collects duty and taxes on imported goods. if you are in the United States for at least 24 but less than 48 hours, you are allowed to import up to $200 per person of the purchase made in the United States.

Thanks, and welcome to Canada

Health verses Wealth

I  agree with this quotation said by A. J. Reb  Materi "So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health".

I think everyone should have balance in his/her life, unless they have no choice, if you start working early with mental and physical jobs and don't care about your health and did't give rest to your body, you may earn a lot, but it will affect on your health, and later you have to pay a lot for regaining your health. and perhaps sometime what you lost cannot gain with money.
my suggestion is to balance both Wealth with Health or vise versa.

Money Matters

Thanks Marcella, we have learned today a lot of idioms and expressions.
Its difficult to use all of them in short paragraph. I will try to use some of them as we are running out the time;
"Since, I started working I always sticked to my budget, I record every single bucks I spend in my diary on regularly, whenever I feel strapped for cash, I controls on pinching pennies and stopped  unnecessary spending and keep the uncompleted tasks for next month.
before buying something I usually survey the real price of the item I need to buy I never pay through the nose.
I never borrowed, even a few bucks from anyone, I do prefer to curb my spending instead of borrowing from someone.

10 Most common Bank Customer Complaints

I went thoroughly  all these 10 common Bank customer Complaints, I really don't have any major complaint with my Bank here in Canada, except the customer service, during the funds transferring from Canada to abroad, the tracking and tracing your transaction are sometime very difficult, for example few months ago I wire transferred some money to my son in USA, it took almost 15 days to find out where is the money either its held in Canada, or USA, almost daily I called the bank as well as visit the Bank, this is a bad experience for me,
Since I never applied for Mortgage or any other loans I don't have any comments

Share important things with Family

I have an appointment with the Doctor tomorrow, it was my mistake that I didn't share these with my wife, she had her own plans for tomorrow, which messed up my doctors appointment, she had to go somewhere, which is very important for her, since she don't have a car, I have to drop her there, I called the doctor and sorry for  not able to come, and to reschedule my  appointment, for time being I hold a grudge against my wife.
later we have understanding among us that we don't make up any plan without discussing each other in future.

I learned a lesson from this situation that always discuss with the family "not all" but the important issues.
